Do You Have a Water Leak?
Here are some of the common indicators of a possible water leak:
Your Water Meter is Ticking
This is the best indication that you have a burst pipe and one of the first things we will check, but also something you can do yourself.
You Hear Water Running
This is a clear sign that there is a leak and what you’re hearing is the sound of the water escaping from the pipe. However, where you hear the noise is not necessarily the place where the burst pipe is, as the sound often travels.
Hot Water System Noises
Your hot water system is making strange noises even when taps and toilets are turned off.
Low Water Pressure
This is a sign that there may be a burst pipe as pressure is being lost somewhere in the system.
Unexpected High Water Bills
This could happen for a number of reasons, such as a toilet cistern may be allowing water to run into the pan; taps may be dripping or the reticulation may be coming on more frequently than necessary. It can also be a warning that there is a burst pipe.
Unexplained Puddles or Dampness
Evidence of water and moisture can be an indication of a leaking pipe, but not always. We have a lot of calls from people who have dampness on the wall adjacent to a shower and most of these issues are related to water seeping through the grouting and tiles from the shower and not a burst pipe. We can provide a pressure test to confirm if there is a leak on the water service or if it is a tiling issue, either way, the problem needs to be resolved.
